Graduated at 6-Years!
Written by Bill Hutchison on December 16, 2008 in News
It took me by surprise that’s for sure as to how cute one black and white tea towel could make a 6 year old boy look…that boy being ours – CALEB! For Caleb’s end of year school play he was chosen for the special part of Joseph and what Joseph wouldn’t be complete without a tea towel wrapped around his head?
On Tuesday the 2nd of December our special boy graduated from his very first year of formal schooling here in Australia. His Prep year was done at Calvary Christian College…a school we will miss greatly when we make the move to Canada.
Caleb’s last day of Prep saw us attend a special awards morning where his role of Joseph was so priceless, leading little Mary up onto the stage to find a place to have her baby. The presentation of various awards shortly followed where our boy received 3 in total:
- Scripture Merit (for getting all of his Bible scriptures correct)
- Joyful and Enthusiastic Learner
- Great Computer Skills
The last one making his Dad extra proud of course. Hmmm, maybe we should have Caleb write our blog articles from now on.
Later that evening, Caleb was able to choose where we went for dinner in order to celebrate the special milestone of finishing Prep. He chose “Fasta Pasta” where of course we raised our glasses to him and did a big “cheers” to congratulate him on a job well done.
It has been such a big year for our family. Jessica lost her best friend for 5 days of the week, but had wonderful excitement at school home time when Caleb would come home with little creations he had made for her during the day. Bill and I had to learn a whole new routine and make sure Caleb was following through with what was being taught in the classroom at home as well. And for Caleb…a big year of learning a whole bunch of firsts that will serve him for the rest of his life. We are so proud of him.
He has blossomed (a cliche we know, but so very appropriate) into such an eager learner and loves to embrace anything new that is given to him. His understanding and love for Jesus has matured so much to the point of even teaching us a thing or two. For example at dinner time this evening… “Hey Mum and Dad, did you know that people can change but God stays the same?” We were blown away with the incredible accuracy he had of God’s character and that he was able to remind his parents of it too.
Once again as a family we are now changing pace as we embrace the summer school holidays. Needless to say we are praying for a lot of God’s grace here as we look at keeping one very active, busy and energetic young man entertained during his break.
